August 2025 Inspiration: Joe Short

It is an absolute pleasure to recognise Joe Short as the Bricklayers Tutors Tool Box Inspiration of the Month. Joe has been a bricklayer for as long as he could hold a trowel, learning the craft at his dad’s side and spending many happy years on the trowel together. That love for the trade never left him, and it shines through in everything he does.

Joe went on to start Brick Jackets, which has quickly become a must-have in our industry, keeping bricklayers building whatever the weather throws at us. He has always celebrated our trade at every opportunity, and you will often find him in colleges, rolling up his sleeves and supporting practical sessions with learners simply because he loves this industry and wants to see it thrive.

Beyond his work, Joe is one of the most genuine family men you could ever meet, and he keeps his friends close to his heart. He’s a true optimist, the kind of person who can make you smile with just one of his classic phrases, and his energy is infectious.

Joe, it’s an honour to call you a friend, and seeing the impact you have on both the trade and the people around you makes this recognition so well deserved. Congratulations, mate.
