July 2025 Inspiration: Ashley Francis

We have not met many people with a passion for brickwork quite like Ash.

As the founder of the Bricklayers Social Club which was born at a time when the social side of our trade was truly tested by the pandemic, Ash has made it his mission to celebrate the craft at every opportunity.

From the early days of promoting others’ work and showcasing the tools and products of fellow tradespeople, to sharing his own enthusiasm for a well made trowel (of which he has a personal collection of over 200), his dedication and passion has never been in question.

Then by chance, a simple conversation threw the three of us together and led to the birth of Super Trowel. What started as an idea has now become the biggest and most passionate brickwork competition in the UK.

Joe and I have had the privilege of working closely with Ash throughout this journey. We’ve seen first hand the thought and care he puts into every decision, always asking how it will benefit the competitors, exhibitors, and attendees alike. His work ethic is second to none, matched only by the integrity and values he brings to everything he does, this includes being a trusted friend to those that know him well.

It’s an honour for both of us to write this testimonial for Ash and I hope as he reads this, he realises just how much he is valued by those around him and by the wider bricklaying industry.
